VERSUS!! was formed in hopes of creating a community that stretched across all majors
at the School of Visual Arts.
What we learned early on was that majority of students were playing the same video games,
but in different rooms, separate from each other.
Looking to bridge this gap, VERSUS!! formed as an official club of SVA in September 2012
and kicked off it's first tournament in November of that year.
Since then it's grown and fostered for a sub-culture of gamers in an art-oriented school,
with attendance ranging at 60+ competitors for certain tournaments.
When will we stop playing video games?
What haven't we outgrown them you might ask?
Why should we?
In what many of us agree, video games influenced our major of study in one way or another.
From character concept art to fluid cut scene animations,
video games are comprised of countless mediums of art and motivate us to see the world in a different way.
A more optimistic approach we'd say.
Whether we use them as an escape when times are tough,
or bench our emotions within their digital world,
video games promote us to work harder, better, and many times, together.
That's what we represent.
Whether your on teams or competing against a rival,
VERSUS!! tournaments are made up of gamers sharing the screen,
and all their invested energy.
